CHAD MOORE NAMED ALAS STATE COORDINATOR

Good morning/afternoon. I am Chad Moore, your new ALAS State Coordinator. I have worked for Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries for ten years. I’ve always loved the ALAS program and I’m happy to be able to take the reins. Robert Stroede and Jan McGovern did an amazing job in steering the program for over five years. I want to thank you for doing your part to introduce tens of thousands of kids to this great sport. Many of these kids would’ve never been afforded the opportunity if it weren’t for you. There is a lot of work to be done before the 2018 tournament season. I have an amazing support staff that I know will help me get the job done. Looking forward to working with all of you in the future. Feel free to contact me anytime if you have questions or concerns.

Tournament season is fast approaching! Registration for regional tournaments will be here soon. We decided to eliminate pre-registration for regionals this year due to time constraints.  I want to leave enough time between registration and tournaments to make sure everything is in order.  We have decided to cap the number of archers for regionals at 800.  It's possible that we may be able to add an additional flight if necessary.  You will recieve your coaches documents that contains more registration details through email in the next couple of weeks. Feel free to contact me with questions or concerns.

2018 NASP TOURNAMENT RULES AND REGULATIONS

The 2018 NASP Tournament Rules and Protocols document is attached. Please review this document as you prepare to teach your archery curriculum and prepare for tournaments. This includes very important information regarding homeschools, shooting up, single gender schools, and third grade archers. If you have any questions regarding rule changes, please contact cmoore@wlf.la.gov .

NEW FOR 2018:

Eastern and Western NASP® Nationals: Qualified schools may register to participate in one but not both. Participation is not guaranteed in either event. Registration will be open to all qualified NASP® schools. Registration for these events will be determined by school. Once a school is registered for one of these NASP® tournaments, teams and individual archers from that school will only be permitted to participate in that event. Qualification tiers will be established for each event individually. All other NASP® National and World rules apply. More Information Below.

SUMMARY OF MAJOR CHANGES IN THE 2018 NASP® COMPETITION RULES:

*Please see complete document for detailed information regarding changes.

• Homeschool: To participate as a homeschool team, a group will need to demonstrate that they are gathering together for educational purposes, beyond just archery. In addition, NASP® is going to request more specific information about who receives the in-school lessons in that group and what other activities they gather for.

• Shooting Up: Shooting Up will still be allowed but limited to schools with less than 150 NASP® eligible archers. Schools with less than 150 NASP® eligible archers will be allowed to add archers to their team from lower level schools (or same level schools) until a total of 150 NASP® eligible archers is reached or exceeded.

• Single Gender: Single gender schools will no longer be required to merge with another school of the opposite gender to form a team. NASP® is implementing this rule on a trial basis.

• Third Grade Archers: Third grade archers will no longer be eligible for NASP® competition.
Please visit: http://naspschools.org/events/ for complete rules and regulations for Bullseye and 3-D competition.

TOURNAMENT SPONSORSHIP INFORMATION

Do you know an individual, business, or organization that might be interested in supporting the ALAS program this year? Thanks to last year's sponsors we gave away $20,000 in scholarships. Help us grow that number even higher by sharing the attached 2017 ALAS Sponsorship Information with those that see the benefit of supporting this great program.
As always with the growth of a program we also experience increased cost to continue to provide the quality tournament experience that we have in the past. Most of the cost of added materials needed, targets, target faces, bows, arrows, etc. is covered by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. However, outside funds are required to cover items such as promotional items, t-shirts, awards, trophies, signs, banners, equipment rental, and most importantly, the scholarships that we award. Thankfully we have always been able to rely on the support of state and local sponsors to make our tournaments a great experience for all who attend and we hope to keep that going!  The 2018 Sponsorship Brochure will be completed soon and will be emailed to you.
Contact cmoore@wlf.la.gov with any questions that you may have.
